About Us

The Open Trails Community Alliance (OTCA) is a volunteer-led organization whose goal is to foster a cooperative and communicative environment to preserve and protect the existing trail systems and open spaces in Meadow Vista and the surrounding community.

Our Mission

We promote unrestricted use of community trails for Meadow Vista and the surrounding community. We do this by raising awareness, building relationships with landowners and local government, and organizing residents to speak with a unified voice.

What We Do

  • Raise awareness about trails facing potential restrictions or closures
  • Work to reopen trails that have already been restricted or closed
  • Meet directly with landowners to pursue cooperative solutions
  • Build community support for permanent trail access
  • Coordinate with local government, community organizations, and utility companies

Our History

The Open Trails Community Alliance began in fall 2020 when concerned Meadow Vista residents started meeting to discuss recent trail restrictions. Our initial focus was the Bear River Canal trail between Placer Hills Road and Meadow Gate Road, where property owners installed two sets of gates blocking access to a trail corridor that had been in community use since the 1940s.

From those early conversations, we built an organization. We started holding biweekly meetings, created this website and a Facebook page, began meeting with landowners and county officials, and grew into a recognized community voice for trail access.

Get Involved

We are always looking for neighbors who care about the trails and want to help. Here are a few ways to support our work:
